Hi! I'm Alyson Carr. this is my first year teaching at Guardian Angels and I'm excited to be a part of this wonderful community. I've recently settled back in Michigan after living and teaching all over the United States and abroad. Most recently I taught Elementary Art in Okinawa Japan through DoDEA (Department of Defense Schools). I learned so much about Japanese culture, met so many interesting people and enjoyed working with all kinds of students. During my time there I was given the unique experience of teaching both off base at a local Okinawan School and on base as well. Military kids living overseas need a little bit of "home" sometimes and I had the pleasure of bringing the Smithsonian outreach program to our classroom. We were able to take a teleconference "field trip" to the Smithsonian and outreach educators made the trip "over the pond" for an in person visit too! In this picture we're experimenting with Batik, an Indonesian textile technique using melted wax, fabric and dye.
